Celebrating the Month of the Military Child at Altus: Carnival Wristband Giveaway Recap

Last Updated 4/12/2024Posted in Committee of 100

The Altus Chamber of Commerce, along with the Committee of 100 and Welcome Wagon, marked this year's Month of the Military Child with an extraordinary show of support and community spirit. In a heartwarming display of gratitude and recognition for our military families, the Chamber facilitated a memorable carnival wristband giveaway, ensuring that military children from Altus Air Force Base experienced the joy and excitement of carnival rides—a small token of appreciation for their sacrifices.

A Rapid Response for Our Military Kids

When news hit that the carnival was rolling into town, the Altus Chamber of Commerce sprang into action, rallying its members to gather nearly $2,000 in less than 24 hours. This impressive effort enabled us to send nearly 80 children from Altus Air Force Base to the carnival with VIP passes. This initiative is a testament to the incredible generosity and quick mobilization of our Chamber members and the Altus community, who are always ready to support and uplift one another.

Community and Collaboration

The Chamber partnered with Rivers Elementary School for a special spirit day, adding an educational and community-building dimension to the festivities. The top two classrooms exhibiting Bulldog pride and participation in "PURPLE-UP" day received additional wristband vouchers. Thanks to our Chamber members, 44 more military children were gifted free access to the carnival.

Event Details and Participation

The wristbands provided by our sponsors were available for use on any day of the carnival, offering families flexibility to enjoy the fun. These VIP passes gave the children unlimited rides and allowed them to skip the usual ticket lines, making their experience as enjoyable and hassle-free as possible.

The giveaway was conducted live on Facebook, with the drawing held at the Chamber office. Military families could enter their children into the drawing by simply commenting with their names on our Facebook post. We ensured everyone could participate or view the drawing live, and we posted the winners' names online for those who could not join us live.

A Heartfelt Thank You

We extend our deepest gratitude to all the sponsors and members of the Chamber who contributed to this successful event. Your willingness to support our military families does not go unnoticed, and it is your generosity that brought countless smiles to children's faces this weekend.

As we reflect on this successful event, we are reminded of the strength and resilience of our military families and the vital role our Chamber members and community play in supporting them. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this Month of the Military Child a memorable one for our brave military children.

Looking Forward

The Altus Chamber of Commerce remains committed to supporting our military families and enhancing community engagement through meaningful events. We look forward to continuing these traditions and finding new ways to show appreciation for our military members and their families. Stay tuned for more exciting community events, and remember, your involvement makes a significant difference!
