Main Street Altus wins Oklahoma Main Street Incentive Program Award!
The Oklahoma Main Street Incentive Program encourages investment, construction and development of Main Streets in Oklahoma, focusing on efforts to sustain or restore vibrancy in commercial districts. These developments will enhance the cultural, recreational, scenic and/or quality of life in participating Main Street communities, attracting more visitors and generating additional sales taxes for the state and local communities. In total, Commerce awarded $830,664 to nine Main Street Communities for their first-ever awards for this program. Other winners include: Salpulpa Main Street ($150,000), Town of Hydro ($50,000), Durant Main Street ($76,470), City of Guthrie ($24,537), Main Street Muskogee ($75,000), Kendall Whittier Main Street in Tulsa ($130,000), Ponca City Main Street ($150,000), and Main Street of Perry ($24,657). Main Street Altus received $150,000.
Main Street Altus applied for the Oklahoma Main Street Incentive Program to fund the installation of new light poles in the heart of downtown Altus. The project will focus on the historic downtown square, a vibrant community gathering place and economic center that hosts multiple events and supports numerous local businesses. The new light poles will serve both functional and aesthetic purposes, enhancing safety, increasing visibility, and improving the overall atmosphere of the area. We are hoping to start installing lights in March! The installation of the new light poles will provide numerous benefits to both local businesses and the broader Altus community. By improving the safety, visibility, and ambiance of the downtown square, the project will encourage people to spend more time in the area, which will, in turn, generate increased foot traffic for local businesses.
