The "Adopt an Airman" program aims to build strong, supportive bonds between members of the Altus community and Airmen just beginning their Air Force journeys. Many of these first-term Airmen are adjusting not only to the military’s demands but also to life far from home, family, and familiar faces. Some are newly married, with their spouses also facing the challenges of settling into a new town and military life. By connecting with our Airmen, Altus residents can offer a sense of home and community, making their transition a little smoother and easing the stresses of this significant life change.
The program is being piloted by the Committee of 100, along with other dedicated volunteers who have a true passion for supporting these Airmen.
Through our program, airmen are paired with caring volunteer host families who share common interests—whether that's sports, hobbies, cultural or religious pursuits, or other activities you’re passionate about. Both airmen and host families can suggest preferences for a match. When multiple parties express interest, we work diligently to accommodate the airman’s wishes and ensure the best possible fit for everyone involved.
