On the evening of July 22nd, the Altus Committee of 100 hosted its much-anticipated “Taste of Altus” event, a special welcome celebration for newcomers to Altus Air Force Base and our community. Held at the Jackson County Expo Center, the event was a resounding success, bringing together local businesses, non-profits, churches, and new residents for an evening filled with food, fun, and warm hospitality.

The “Taste of Altus” event offered an incredible opportunity for newcomers to experience the best of what Altus has to offer. Attendees enjoyed a variety of free food samples provided by local restaurants and businesses, along with engaging activities and entertainment. It was a true showcase of the community’s spirit and generosity.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many participants and volunteers who made this event possible. Special recognition goes to Martha Road Baptist Church for their contribution of games and bounce houses, which added a delightful touch of fun for families. The Altus Parks + Recreation team deserves praise for their tireless work from setup to teardown, ensuring the event ran smoothly.

A big thank you is also due to the Ambassadors from Western Oklahoma State College, who manned our table and assisted throughout the night, and to our Chamber student members and Jr. Ambassadors, who served as tour guides and helped with cleanup. The Military Affairs Committee provided invaluable support by attending the event and offering their impressive backdrop, which added to the evening’s welcoming atmosphere.

We cannot overlook the hard work and dedication of the Committee of 100 members who volunteered and provided financial support, making this event a reality. A special mention goes to the planning committee of the Committee of 100, who spent months coordinating every detail to ensure the success of “Taste of Altus.”

Finally, we were thrilled to hear from participants like Joshua Stevens from TFirearms and Don Cota, who shared their experiences and expressed gratitude for the impact events like these have on newcomers. Their feedback is a testament to the importance of community events in fostering strong connections between the Altus community and Altus Air Force Base.

To all the new residents who joined us, we hope you felt the warmth of our welcome. We’re excited to have you as part of our community and look forward to seeing you at future events!
